Ember Project Recipients Starting A Fundraiser

Ember Project Students start a fundraiser using custom made t-shirts

This year, we will spotlight and support four teams of student changemakers. While their full stories are yet to be released, we want to focus on one team that has begun a creative fundraiser. These 8th-grade students from Westside Neighborhood School are helping to address the issue of homelessness, particularly for children, in a unique and fun way.

As part of their capstone project, called SWIM (Solutionary Work in Motion), these students are supporting the organization Worthy of Love, whose mission is to throw birthday parties for children and teens experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles, CA, and Houston, TX. They have serviced over 10,000 youth since 2013.

This student team has designed and screen-printed 150 custom shirts to fundraise for Worthy of Love, hoping to raise $2000 for an upcoming event in late April here in Los Angeles.

While the t-shirts are only available to the WNS community, if you would like to support their efforts you can make a donation today.

Students screen printing and curing their shirts in the WNS fablab,

LumenSparQ is helping to support the team by matching dollar for dollar of funds raised, up to $500.

Special note: The staff at Worthy of Love was so impressed with the design that they are printing their own shirts and onesies for over 1,800 homeless moms and children in LA and Houston using the students’ design! Kudos to the team!
