This month, LumenSparQ had the privilege of supporting an inspiring food distribution event at Morningside High School in Inglewood. Led by a collaboration between the Social Justice Learning Institute, Support & Feed, and Farmlink, this event demonstrated the power of partnerships and the importance of community-focused action.
With nearly 80 volunteers across all three organizations, the event was a well-oiled machine of compassion and efficiency. Starting bright and early at 7 AM, volunteers worked to assemble boxes for fresh produce, sort items, and prepare for the arrival of over 500 families seeking resources.
The produce we distributed was a colorful mix of pineapples, melons, jicama, papayas, and more. Alongside these nutritious goods, families received personal care items and other essentials, all packaged with care and dedication.
The Heart of the Event
The event kicked off with an empowering message from the Social Justice Learning Institute:
💡 “We are not here to feel sorry for people or place pity on others. We are here to celebrate and uplift the community.”
This spirit of celebration and resilience guided every moment of the day. Volunteers worked with enthusiasm, creating a compost heap for unusable food scraps and ensuring every box was packed with love and intention.
The Impact
As the first cars rolled through the distribution line at 10 AM, the energy was palpable. Throughout the morning, the line of families stretched down to Imperial Blvd, a testament to the community’s need and the importance of the work being done.
This day was a reminder that small acts of service, like sorting produce or assembling boxes, can ripple outward, creating waves of support for those who need it most.
